Setup
Drag this guy into your browser's bookmarks toolbar:
SplitFrame (Or, hey!, try it on this page!)
Usage
When clicked, on your site, it will ask for two strings:
Needle | Part of the site's development URL that is specific to it and not its live counterpart |
---|---|
Replacement | What replaces the aforementioned needle on the live site |
Example: A site that is locally tested on http://dev.fubar.com/
but publicly exists as http://www.fubar.com/
would have its needle as dev.
and its replacement as www.
.
The needle and its replacement are saved in your browser and will pre-fill their prompts on SplitFrame's next run.
Caveats
- The site being used must not disallow being framed.
- Due to the same origin policy, navigation pushes will only work one way unless explicitly allowed. That is, you can drive the right side from the left side but not vice versa.
- Requires a semi-recent browser; nothing is checked or polyfilled. Legacy patches welcome— I won't write them until I need them! ;)
